Libby's Finding Ad · August 13, 2006

Below is a picture of Libby in her "finding ad". In China, when a baby is found abandoned, it is required by law that the baby's photo be listed in a local paper for 3 days. This way parents who abandoned the baby can find the baby if they've changed their minds. A man named Brian Stuy, here in the States, does all the research to find each baby's finding ad. He located Libby's and sent us the actual newspaper in which her ad was located.  It's in color and this is most likely the earliest photo we will ever have of Libby. She's adorable!

Libby's Newborn Photo - "Finding Ad"

The number above Libby's picture is an indication of how many babies over time this one small newspaper has advertised as "found". She is number 2716. You can't see the other babies' pictures here, but in the same paper 4 other babies from Libby's orphanage are shown. These 4 babies, along with Libby, will be adopted by parents in our travel group all on the same day! Their English names will be: Maliah Jade, Ashley Dawn, Klaire Julianne, and Maura.

The paper is dated January 3, 2006. I don't know if Libby's picture was taken shortly after being found or if it was taken around the time of this "finding ad".

The text below Libby's picture translates into the following:

"Xu Fan" (Libby's Chinese name)

"A girl. On 11/24/05, a newborn baby was found by the side of the walking lane at the center of Hongqi Second Road, Xuwen County. She was inside a box when found, and she wore a pink outfit. She had little hair. Claim unit: Xuwen County orphanage."
